Media Studies - NCEA Level 2

Entry Requirements: 14 credits at Level 1 English, or at Head of Learning's discretion.

Course Outline:

Level 2 Media Studies provides an introduction for students who are new to the subject. Students both analyse media texts and produce their own. The general theme for the year is you – the teenager! We will look at how teens engage with a variety of media texts. In the first portion of the course, the focus is ethics and the media. Students will produce a podcast on an ethical issue within the media combining primary and secondary research. Moving into term two the shift is toward visual media. We will look at how a particular group are represented in the media, before undertaking a close narrative analysis of a film or television series. Finally, in term three the class will look at a media product specifically focusing its production. Our last unit is a genre study of the 'teen' genre.
