Media Studies - NCEA Level 3

Entry Requirements: 14 Level 2 Media Studies or English credits, or at Head of Learning's discretion.

Course Outline:

Level 3 Media Studies develops on the foundation established in the Level 2 course, while still being accessible to those new to the subject. It continues the focus on reading and producing media texts in accordance with the three Learning Objectives of the Media Curriculum. In the first term of the course the focus is representation. Students will analyse an issue of representation within New Zealand Society and produce a short video essay. In the second term, the focus is media industry and developments. Students will explore an industry and a recent major development within the industry and present their findings to the class as a speech or podcast. In the third term, we move into an exploration of a film genre. Students will closely study a film genre looking at how it reflects a specific society, as well as critically analysing it in a variety of meaningful ways.
