History - NCEA Level 2

Entry Requirements: Open to all students.


Course Outline:

Students are taught topics which allow them to answer the external standards as well as completing the two internal standards.

Term One: Theme – Skill development

  • Write That Essay sentences and paragraphs
  • Source Interpretation skills which will be used in both internal and external standards.
  • Causes of World War One and impact on Whanganui Collegiate School.

Term Two: Theme – Protests and Perspectives

  • Vietnam War with a focus on New Zealand’s involvement. Why did NZ provide humanitarian and military assistance? How did the public respond? What were the effects of Agent Orange on NZ troops?

Term Three: Theme – Leadership – how a self-centred leader can be a negative influence

  • Failure of the Weimar Republic 1920 – 1934
  • Rise to Power of Hitler
  • Holocaust

Assessment:

  • Internal credits - up to 9
  • External credits - up to 10
  • Total credits - up to 19


University Entrance Literacy: 
Up to 14 University Entrance Reading credits
Up to 14 University Entrance Writing credits


Comments: 
You do not have to have studied History previously but reading and writing skills are useful in this subject.
A field trip to Waiouru Military Museum is undertaken; this is optional.


This course leads to: Level 3 History 


Costs: Field trip to Waiouru Military Museum - $35 (optional) or Te Papa (Gallipoli Exhibition)
