History - NCEA Level 3

Entry Requirements: Open to all students.


Course Outline:

Students will gain knowledge and skills to help them understand the causes, consequences, and explanations of historical events that are of significance to New Zealanders. They will also learn how perspectives of a contested event differ and how to analyse evidence. The following topics may be taught:

New Zealand History:

  • Early Contact to establish social and economic interactions leading to the Musket War
  • Musket wars
  • Either the Taranaki or Waikato Wars
  • Invasion and plunder of Parihaka 5 November 1881
  • Suffragette Movement and women getting the right to vote 1893
  • 1789 French Revolution


Assessment:

  • Internal credits - up to 10
  • External credits - up to 10 
  • Total credits - up to 20


Approved subject for University Entrance: This subject is considered an Approved Subject for University Entrance

University Entrance Literacy: Up to 25 University Entrance Literacy credits


Comments: Students do not have to have studied History. Strong literacy skills are recommended. Scholarship is offered to students who take this course.
