Teaching & Learning
Outstanding, consistent academic performance.
At St George’s we have created an innovative and exciting learning environment. Small class sizes ensure that our students receive the individual attention they deserve, from teachers who are leaders in modern teaching methods.
We understand that our students are individuals, and that each one has a unique learning style. Our aim is to educate each one of our students in a way that recognises their particular learning strengths, increases their sense of achievement and promotes self-esteem.
Our academic and pastoral staff work together to ensure that each student’s development and progress is monitored. We provide for gifted and talented students both within the classroom and through the provision of additional extension activities. We also offer an established and well-resourced system of learning support for those students who require individual tutoring to meet their specific learning needs.
There’s a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy because we understand that it’s vital to get the basics right. The success of our approach is demonstrated by the school’s exceptional academic results.
At St George’s we also believe that our children are capable of success at an international level. Our English, Mathematics, Science and Digital Technology results in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) exams show this. From 2011 through to 2016, for example, we have consistently had students achieving High Distinctions, which puts them in the top 1% of children sitting these exams. In 2015, we had one of our students gain the top mark in ICAS English in New Zealand, a truly outstanding achievement.
We understand that our students need to be self-directed in their learning and develop skills so they are problem solvers and innovative in their thinking. Our learners are connected; they are go-getters and excellent communicators. These are the skills we teach our students and are the skills they will need as they face a rapidly changing and challenging world. Our students demonstrate and use a ‘Growth Mindset’ in their learning and they understand that learning can be difficult. However, most importantly, we set our students up to be confident and capable learners who are engaged in their learning.
Your child’s academic achievement is important to us. We work hard to ensure that all children at St George’s are provided with the resources to enable them to reach their academic potential.
