Our Facilities & School Hire

School Hire Information

Our location and the facilities we offer combine to provide an ideal environment in which teenagers can grow. Although bricks and mortar do not make a great school, we are fortunate in the quality of our facilities.
The School is set on a 25 hectare site, of which 17 hectares are playing fields or open space. Central to the School is the Drive, the road which runs through the grounds and is well travelled every day by students and staff commuting between buildings.
The four original iconic Boarding Houses line one side and the expanse of the main field the other, divided by magnificent Pohutakawa trees. The School enjoys first-class facilities on site.

The Sir Harold Gillies Science Centre: A $1.8 million upgrade which has resulted in top-line facilities (pictured right), including five laboratories centralised in one single building, comprising three specialist subject labs and two multipurpose labs.

The Foundation Music School: Opened in 1991, this houses a spacious concert room, teaching & practice rooms.

The Prince Edward Auditorium: Opened in 1984, the Auditorium provides a 500-seat theatre complemented by full theatrical and audio-visual amenities.

The Izard Sports Complex: Opened in 1994, the complex houses the central main space with rubberised playing surface, a classroom, and gymnasium facilities. An elevated area offers viewing into the complex or across the main field.

Swimming Pool: A 25 yard, 6 lane outdoor pool, well patronised during the summer months. The pool surrounds accommodate the whole School for the Swimming Championships each February.

Big School: An historic building erected in 1911, holding 20 classrooms and a central space used for assembly, concerts, exhibitions and dinners. Honours boards and extensive trophy cabinets feature in the central space.

Gilligan House Memorial Room: Adjacent to Big School, this is a meeting area with tiered seating.

The Chapel: A beautiful building, listed by the Historic Places Trust, provides a wonderful astmosphere in which the School meets for worship.

The Design and Technology Suite: A computer-aided design suite with the latest resources, which allows students to digitally design and make projects.

State-of-the-art Hockey Turf: This is purpose-built to the latest standards, including floodlights for evening use.
