Hockey Turf Supporters
Introduction 03 Feb 2010 Wanganui Collegiate School is one of the leading independent schools in the country, providing an environment where young people are encouraged to learn, grow and achieve to their full potential. The school spirit is strongly linked to our sporting success and the school, over its one hundred and fifty year history, has provided the opportunities and challenges young people need for purposeful development, both academically and in the sporting arena. The Hockey Turf will uphold this proud tradition, providing our students with the opportunity to excel. A number of New Zealand Secondary Schools have water turf facilities and in every circumstance the benefits to the school both in hockey terms, but more importantly in total school terms, have been enormous. The impact has not only been at school grade but also through the club and rep grades, creating a pathway for hockey players to succeed. Hockey is now one of the largest sports by numbers at Wanganui Collegiate School with eight teams competing and both the Boys’ and Girls’ 1st XI achieving at the highest level. The Girls 1st XI retained a place in the Premier Division Federation Cup for 2010 after winning both the Marie Fry (2008) and Chica Gilmer (2007) tournaments in two consecutive years. The 1st XI boys retain a place in the India Shield for 2010 after successfully competing in the Rankin Cup in 2008. As importantly, the Hockey Turf will continue our strong relationship with the Wanganui Community. The turf will be a wonderful asset which will strengthen the hockey sector in the region, enabling Wanganui to promote itself as one of the leading hockey centres in New Zealand. This will raise the profile of the region and have positive economic benefits for the Wanganui region. We ask you to join us and donate to the Hockey Turf Project and be part of something which will have a positive impact on our school and the community. Our students are the future and your giving makes a significant difference to that future.
